I really want a pet bird!? - Pet care and feed

my dad said i cant have a bird because of his work he drives lorries and delivers chicken feed lol he said that if i was to get a bird it could catch a disease or something or he could get something and pass it on to the chicken feed but i don?t know if he is lying because he doesn?t like animals and really doesn?t want me to have a pet!! but is it true or is he lying?

How old are you? Do you have other pets? If so who take care of them?

A bird is a lot of work. If your dad say no then he must have his reasons.
I loved birds all my life but I wasn?t allowed to have one as a child. I?m grateful my parents took that decision because now that I keep them I realize that they really need a lot of attention and should only be adopted by devoted owners. In many aspects, they are like children. I got birds when I lived alone and later with my boyfriend agreeing to get one.
A bird can be very noisy and every member of the household should be okay with that before you acquire one.

I doubt that your bird could get sick because of the job of your father. He would need to be in direct contact with sick birds and then manipulate your bird for it to get sick. But still if he don?t want a bird, you can?t force the pet on him.

If your dad says no, then the answer is no. Birds require a LOT of time and maintenance, and they require several hours of interaction a day. They can catch diseases from other birds, though I?m not sure how much exposure to any contagensyour bird would have. If your dad is worrying about his birds getting sick, then you need to respect his answer. Your want of a bird does not outweigh his way of life. I?m sure he wouldn?t mind you getting a pet, but he has reasons against birds.

You can?t catch illnesses of birds unless they have mites (fleas for birds), but if they have mites they would of had them since you bought them, and when you buy birds from pet store its VERY rare they have mites, so he is lying.

That is not true, well that?s what I think. I have a cockatiel and 2 canaries; they get sick once in awhile but they don?t pass it on to things like that.
