ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The U.S. Marshals say one of the 15 most wanted suspects in the country may be hiding out in New Mexico.
Detectives believe Corey Gaston could be in Albuquerque or Las Cruces.
Gaston is wanted for breaking into a family's home, kidnapping a 10-year-old girl and raping her in a back alley in 2007. That happened on the east side of Detroit and he was connected by DNA and a cell phone he dropped at the scene.
He was in jail but came up with twenty grand in cash to bond out; then he went on the run.
Now Marshals say they have strong evidence Gaston is in New Mexico, Deputy Ben Segota said, ?Right now we are focusing on the Las Cruces area but we also believe he might be in the Albuquerque metro area.?
Gaston is 5?7? about 170 pounds. He has a distinctive bowlegged walk and is very muscular.
Gaston was a Michigan State hockey player at one point and has driven big rigs for the past decade. Something he may be doing under a different name according to Segotta,
?He could be using an alias right now we are looking for anyone who recognizes a picture? If somebody feels they recognize him even slightly it's always better to call and let us investigate it instead of it going unnoticed.?
Marshals says Gaston may be traveling between Mexico, New Mexico and Texas. He's even been featured on America?s Most Wanted.
Even though he hasn't committed any new crimes while on the run said Segotta, ?He obviously has the mindset to do heinous acts. I would consider him at the utmost dangerous.?
If you know where Gaston is call the Marshals at (505) 346-6400.
